Where is Sphinx Airport?
Where is Sphinx Airport? A clear, up-to-date answer for travellers planning their trip. Message Sphinx Airport on WhatsApp to book.
Sphinx International Airport (SPX) is located on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road near Kerdasa, in Giza Governorate, Egypt — roughly 35 km from 6th of October City and about 46 km from Cairo International Airport, on the opposite side of Greater Cairo.
It shares its site with the older Cairo West Air Base, and was built specifically to serve travellers heading to the Giza Plateau — the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum — with a shorter transfer than landing at Cairo's main airport.
Reported driving distances from the airport to the Pyramids and central Giza vary quite a bit depending on the source — some put it at around 10–15 km, others closer to 35–40 km — so rather than rely on a single figure, it's worth checking your specific route once you know your hotel.
Whichever distance turns out to be accurate for your trip, Sphinx Airport books fixed-price transfers from SPX to hotels across Giza, Cairo and beyond, so you don't need to work it out yourself.
Need a ride to or from Sphinx Airport? Sphinx Airport runs licensed, fixed-price transfers with English-speaking drivers, 24/7. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll confirm your pickup in minutes.
